Reasons to Have a Third Child

1. I always thought I'd have three kids
2. I'd like to get one more chance to actually experience birth
3. I'm one of three, and I like having two siblings
4. Babies are nice and snuggly
5. I'd like to breastfeed again
6. Might be nice to have a girl
7. I'd like to have an adult daughter someday
8. We make cute kids
9. I like being a mother

Reasons to Not Have a Third Child

1. Dear God, I like my sleep
2. That first year is not my favorite time
3. I'm old
4. And creaky
5. Chances of birth defects are higher
6. Putting two kids through college is going to be impossible already
7. Having three kids under the age of 5 could push me over the edge
8. Less attention to give to the other two
9. It's just starting to get easier with the other two

I could have come up with a million reasons to have not had one thru five, however there has never been a moment since they were conceived or born that I would have done it differently. I am sure someone could have given you great reasons to not have one or two..... Life is too short for regret. You might regret never having another, you will never regret actually having him/her.

Good Luck with your decision. And ya'll do make incredibly cute children.

hmm. The first list -
#7 - it IS nice to have an adult daughter. And it was nice (mostly :-D) to have that daughter growing up (#6).
the rest, yep, yep, yep.
And you know I never planned on LK, and we certainly have our challenges, but I wouldn't give any of that up for the world.

So - the why nots... let's do this systematically...
1. Sleep. Yes, that's good. I still don't get much. Can't argue.
2. That first year is just that - one year. Done. Gonzo.
3. Old? well - that doesn't change. But having little ones around apparently makes you stay young. Or so I'm told. Or maybe people are just being nice.
4. Ha.
5. Birth Defects. Pretty much the same as your last one. And testing is much better now.
6. College? Hello - college loans. L&M put their 5 through on various types of financial assistance. I almost think it's easier that way.
7. 3 under 5? I'll push you back from that edge. And I'll take those kidlets anytime you want. ANYTIME YOU WANT!!! (almost)
8. Less attention - you'd think so, but the other people around provide so much more attention, it's not really noticeable.
9. I still remember when I schlepped BK with his carseat, diaper bag, apnea monitor, snowsuit and stroller into the car while my 6 & 9 year olds got in and buckled their own seatbelts. I wondered what the hell had I been thinking? And was alcohol involved? And again, I wouldn't change that for the world.
The tough times happen with one kid or 7. You deal and move on.

You know the only thing that would sway my decision in your shoes? You have scary births. My decision to stop had to do with ever decreasing gestational lengths (41 weeks to 37 to 30). I thought it would be good not to try to push that one. But it's not like you have scary pregnancies and they know to watch you like a hawk for those births, so what the heck?

Wanna know the real reason not to have the third? Most rides at amusement parks are conducive to one parent per child. Logistics get a little tough when you have 5 instead of 4. Oh, and a table at a restaurant takes longer when you have 5 instead of 4. That's pretty much it!

So get working on it, girl! Put on a romantic lullaby and make it happen! I'm ready!

Oooh, you're right about the amusement park rides. That won't work at all. Forget it.

Hmmm...some people once you have two, you might as well have three:)

BIL and SIL decided they needed to have a #3. They had a #3 with a #4 thrown in as a bonus (twin boys).

Just saying... :)

Hah, yeah, that possibility did occur to me, Carrie. Yet another reason to stick to what we have.

no no no - no sticking! Auntie here saying no sticking! No no no!

that's all. My vote has been cast.

again.

This won't happen to you but I know someone who went for a third kid and - totally naturally - got quads.

They had to buy a Suburban.

Anyhoo, I'm not about to tell you what to do but I'd love to read the daily goings on of your three wonderful kids.

You do make cute kids.

Oh, quads. That's even better than twins.

You do make cute kids--be it 2, 3, 4 or 6. It's definitely a fear of mine if/when we decide to finally get around to babies. There's just a lot of ugly in the families and given what we both looked like from ages 9-14, it could be scary. (Thankfully, we did both grow into our teeth, noses, ears, etc.)

I think it's all in the blending of genes, Carrie - our kids are way cuter than either G or I.

Well you DO make some dang cute kids.

GL! :)

Remember: You could get twins....
